COCOGEN's Holiday Electricity Saving Tips

When the holidays come rolling around, it’s quite expected to see your electric bill go beyond or double your normal electricity rates. From bright Christmas lights and lanterns to Christmas parties and family reunions lasting until the wee hours of the morning, your lights and other home appliances are technically on for days. Now that the holidays are here again, we at COCOGEN Insurance have enumerated some simple yet economical ideas on how you can cut down your home electricity costs and be merry this Christmas. Set your air condition timers. Admit it. Most of the time we forget to turn the air conditioning off. Better set a timer, and then you can forget about it. Timers are devised to let you program your home air conditioning to work on a scheduled period so you don’t have to get up to turn it off while you are snoozing off in the middle of the night.
Unplug appliances and Christmas lights. When not in use or out on a holiday vacation, remember to turn your lights off and unplug your appliances to lessen your electrical consumption. Plug it in only if it is needed to be on, such as in the evening, for instance, to brighten up your home.
Do not overload extension cords. Just because your extension cords offer lots of socket plugs, it doesn’t mean you need to use all of them. Doing so might blast your electrical usage and (knock-on-wood) start a fire. You wouldn’t want this to happen to you during holidays, right? So, try not to overload your extension cords with multiple lights and appliances plugged in.
Use LED lights for your Christmas tree When it comes to holiday decorations, the Christmas tree is one of the first things we set up in our homes, brought to glorious life with colorful Christmas lights that flash or blink in perfect unison (depending on your light settings). This year, consider using LED (Light Emitting Diode) lights for a change. They consume less electricity than regular incandescent Christmas lights.
Open doors and windows. One traditional alternative to save electricity is going al fresco. Let doors and windows of your home welcome the cool breeze of December. It is the perfect time to give your electric fans, air conditioning systems, and bulbs a break from the whole year of hard work.
It can be quite challenging particularly when you’re not accustomed to it but adapting change might be a little worthy, don’t you think? Especially when it helps you save up on resources, a.k.a. electricity, money, and what else. Feels good to help conserve energy, too! *** The author of this article contributed in their own personal capacity.
