Prepare these house spots before the rainy season

Since we live in a tropical country, rains are pretty much a part of our lives all year round. The sensible thing to do is to have an emergency plan for typhoons, and a big part of taking precaution is gearing up your home for the wet season. Here are a few things you should regularly inspect around your house at all times to avoid major property damage. Roofing The first and most obvious step of your typhoon preparedness plan is checking your roof. It should go without saying that there should be no leaks coming anywhere from your ceiling. Make sure that you note down the areas that already have holes, and have them fixed as soon as you can. Trust us: This is something you wouldn’t want to delay! Gutter Gutters can easily accumulate dirt like leaves, small rocks, and other debris. Double-check that your gutter isn’t obstructed, and that the flow of water is smoothly running to the drainage or away from your house. Drainage system Similar to the gutter, check the drainages surrounding your house. There should be a clear path as to where the water goes, and examine if it pools up in one corner. If it does, your flooring might not be leveled. Also be certain that no garbage is clogging the drainages. Doors and windows Your doors and windows shouldn’t have any gaps or cracks wide enough for the water to seep through. Make sure they are tightly shut, and if needed, apply sealants on the problem areas, and test if they work well. Electrical outlets Water and electricity don’t mix, so thoroughly see to it that your electrical wirings won’t be in the way of any potential leak-prone areas. If you notice that the water is already making its way, it’s best to unplug the appliances and discontinue use of the socket. You can cover the area using plastic socket plugs or redirect the water coming in. Exhaust fans and air vents Since vents and fans can’t be sealed completely, water may come in unexpectedly in these areas. You can wrap thick plastic bags or sheets on the inside and outside of your home so you can be doubly sure about water not getting in.
