The D.R.E.A.M Team: Mobilizing Disaster Response Action For COCOGEN

Calamities and accidents come unexpectedly. No one can ever tell when or how it’s going to happen but there is one thing that we can do before someone’s life gets in danger- prevention. In light of this reality, COCOGEN set up its own group of individuals who are in charge of keeping everyone in the company prepared and aware of the risk management and safety precautions. These people were trained to act upon the hazards brought about by any cases of fire or earthquake and to prevent casualties. They are the Disaster Response Emergency Action Management Team or simply called the DREAM Team. The DREAM Team was established in line with the company’s commitment to the ongoing nationwide campaign on disaster and risk management of the government. The team is divided into five sub-groups where each one has their own specialization. The first sub-group is the Fire and Earthquake Brigade who are trained to control and normalize situations in case of fire in the area. They are also tasked to ensure everyone’s safety during evacuation. Working closely with the Fire and Earthquake Brigade are those in the Search and Rescue sub-group whose responsibility is to make sure that COCOGEN employees are properly secured from being harmed. The Evacuation sub-group will then be in charge of guiding the evacuees as they move to a safer area. Casualties such as wounded individuals will be taken care of by the Medical team, a trained group of employees who are certified for first aid applications under the supervision of the Philippine Red Cross. The fifth and last sub-group is the Reporting team with the primary task of gathering and recording information about the situation. They are also tasked to keep everything documented as well as to make sure that everyone in the list are rescued. With the establishment of the DREAM Team, extending help to those who need it the most in the event of a disaster is not impossible. And with their disaster preparedness and risk management skills honed through series of trainings and hands-on experiences, it makes them a lot more capable of helping others even outside COCOGEN as the need arises. *** The author of this article contributed in their own personal capacity.
