Fun Activities to Do with Your Kids This New Year

It’s a brand new 2017 and while some may have bitterness over the year that was, we shouldn’t look back in anger because 2016 was a year of worthy lessons learned the hard way. The silver lining to all this is that 2017 opens doors to start anew — a fresh start to a lot of things. That means the parent in you can now finally resolve to start taking less time at work to spend more time with the kids. 1. Play dress up together. Who doesn’t love playing dress up? Kids love it, and adults, well, they never outgrew it. It’s the perfect bonding time be silly, and you don’t have to spend a single peso for this. Raid your closets and see what you can come up with using only the clothes that you have. You can even play pretend and makeshift a costume of your kid’s favorite superhero or character. It’ll be a whole lot of fun! 2. Make homemade pizza Sure, it’ll be crazy messy and the kitchen will be probably be beyond recognition once you’re done but who cares? It’s pizza! Plus, it will surely be enjoyable for the whole family. You can let your kids put toppings of their choice to the dough. Keep it fun and make pizzas of different flavors. Everybody wins! Bonus: If you don’t have a kitchen stove you can try this amazing pizza microwave hack (video below). Trust us, the kids will love it. 3. Take a picnic. It doesn’t have to be far or even outside the Metro. It just has to be somewhere peaceful, uncrowded, and safe. You can pack a whole basket full of goodies, fruits, or other treats. Bring a kite, a badminton set, or a bottle of bubbles and spend the whole day getting some sun. You can even bring a guitar and play your kids’ favorite songs and sing along with them as you play. It’s easily a good time for everyone. Tip: Pack sunscreen if it’s a sunny day out and bring anti-mosquito repellents in case there are a lot of mosquitoes around the area. 4. Visit museums. A child’s ability to learn is greater while they’re still young. It is highly encouraged to nurture the various interests they are into at this early phase of their lives. So go ahead and take them to a trip around the Metro and visit the different museums nearby. This activity can be an eye-opener for your kid’s potential. 5. Go for a bike ride. Parents who know how to bike will agree that it would not only be a fun pastime, but also a learning one at that. Keep in mind how you once needed courage, patience, and perseverance when you were young before you learned to ride on your own. This is one of those moments you will want to be there for your children. So grab that bike, chop off the training wheels, wear the helmet, and teach your kids how to ride the bike safely, and in style. Make it a point this 2017 to spend longer time with your kids as much as possible, for a change. After all, they are only young once. *** The author of this article contributed in their own personal capacity.
