GILAS Pilipinas Coach Yeng Guiao Trains COCOGEN Team
“Find the greater purpose for the things that you do.”
These were the words of Joseller “Yeng” Guiao to the employees of COCOGEN Insurance (UCPB General Insurance Company, Inc.) during the Magilas Session held at the head office (HO) in Pasig City last July 3.

Guiao is a professional basketball head coach, a public servant, commentator and sports commissioner. Currently, he is the coach of the NLEX Road Warriors of the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) and the interim head coach of the Philippine national basketball team, Gilas Pilipinas.
COCOGEN invited Guiao to coach and motivate the HO team including Metro Manila and Luzon Sales heads. Cocolife Sales and Marketing representatives also joined the session. In his talk, he compared working in a corporate setting to playing in a basketball team. He focused on how to attain success in both fields.
Coach Yeng also shared five principles he lives by not only as a professional coach but also as a public servant, citing the importance of preparation as the key to success, teamwork, decision-making, physical and mental fitness, and faith.
“Don’t just play for the money or recognition. That’s not the reason why you play,” he added.
He also advised the audience to find inspiration in everything they do and to remember to do it because they have a personal purpose.
“The talk was very team-oriented. Who would have thought that we can also pick up lessons from the basketball court and apply in the office? His points are very inspiring and I believe most of us [employees] were really touched by his approach,” Augustos Dalisay of Risk Management Services expressed.
After the session, the employees of COCOGEN also took the advantage of having a photo opportunity with the coach uploading and expressing their admiration and excitement in meeting the coach personally in their respective social media accounts.
The Magilas Session program aims to provide learning and conduct dialogues to set expectations and directions among the employees of COCOGEN, from upper management to rank and file.
