Is Your Toothbrush More Important Than Your Life?

Good hygiene has always been imparted since childhood essentially because hygiene directly affects one’s health. Poor health means you’re poor. Not literally, but health is wealth, remember.

In a poll conducted with 1,000 Aussie travellers, records showed that only 10% of this statistic actually believe that bringing a toothbrush when travelling was much more important than securing travel insurance. To be specific, 51% of the respondents stated that they have not bothered to arm themselves with an insurance policy on their last overseas trip. Seems like the Australians care more about their teeth than their lives.

However ridiculous the findings seemed, it was disconcerting. The fact that there are more people who place more concern about their breath than the value of their own lives is a case of misappropriated priorities. It is essential to always have travel insurance, especially when you’re going overseas. The farther you are from home, the more open you are to risks. Not having travel insurance with your when you are out exploring the world means you’re playing your chances. You assume that you’re going to be fine, that you’re going out and that you’re coming home untouched. This assumption is exactly what’s getting you in trouble. When you think that nothing can go wrong, this is when everything may go wrong.

Worst-case scenario. A Filipino travelling in London for vacation. Unfortunately, he suffered a heart attack and needs to be hospitalized. The horror of it will even show on the medical bills he has to pay for. Vacation ruined. What’s the use of his toothbrush now?

Travelling is supposed to be fun. It’s supposed to be about having the time of your life. It should give you the sense of freedom- from work, from stress, from other duties and responsibilities. Don’t spoil this rarity by letting unprecedented circumstances victimize you.Sure, planning an insurance is daunting. It’s no fun. But being involved in an accident while travelling isn’t either.

Life is precious. Make it a priority. A toothbrush, however, will always be available at the nearest convenience store.
